By Edward & Emma
With 2025 now behind us, we’ve finally found a moment to sit down (with a cuppa, obviously) and reflect on what was a huge year for our family-run farm.
2025 was all about new customers, new products, delicious recipes, community spirit, and a whole lot of hard work from an incredible team who feel more like extended family.
Here’s our whistle-stop tour of the year that flew by faster than a free-range chicken at feeding time.
A Chilly Start & Stormy Skies
January: Snow, Storms & Strong Spirits
January kicked off exactly how Yorkshire likes it – cold, snowy, and with a bit of drama thrown in courtesy of Storm Eowyn. Alongside power cuts and some storm damage, it wasn’t the gentlest start, but farming has a way of toughening you up quickly.
By February, we dusted ourselves off and finally managed to host our staff Christmas party – only five weeks late (or 12 months early), depending on how you look at it! Either way, it was well deserved and full of laughs.
A Proud Moment for the Whole Team: Poultry Farmer of the Year
February brought one of our proudest moments yet:
We were named Poultry Farmer of the Year at the Northern Farmer Awards.
This award belongs to every single member of our team. Their care, dedication, and shared belief in doing things the right way is what makes Herb Fed Poultry what it is.
Spring Celebrations & Industry Adventures
Spring arrived with plenty to celebrate. We marked National Pie Week, Mother’s Day, and were incredibly proud to support the Team GB Butchery Team, supplying Herb Fed chickens for their training.
April: Farm Shop & Deli Show
In April, Zoe and Emma headed off to the Farm Shop & Deli Show. It’s always a brilliant trip – inspiring, eye-opening, and a great reminder of the scale, innovation and passion across our industry.
Summer Sunshine & Community Spirit
Summer was busy (as always!) and full of community events. We sponsored – and some of us even ran – the Easingwold 10K, supported local charity fairs and food events, and proudly sponsored the Smoke & Fire Festival.
One of the highlights of the year, without question, was taking a stand at the Great Yorkshire Show – our all-time favourite event and the true kick-start of summer for us.
A Big Birthday & New Arrivals
July was extra special as we celebrated 15 years of Herb Fed Poultry. What started as a family idea has grown into something we’re incredibly proud of – and we’re still a family business at heart.
Not long after, we welcomed the 2025 turkey flock to the farm, always a milestone moment in our calendar.
Hot Days & Happy Birds
We battled through a hot summer, working hard to keep the birds cool and comfortable, while enjoying the sunshine on our backs (and the occasional ice cream).
Award-Winning Year
2025 was also an award-winning year for us:
- 3 Great Taste Awards: One each for our turkeys, roosters and chickens
- Gold Award from the Great British Food Awards for our turkey
Awards like these mean the world to us because they recognise the care, welfare and flavour we work so hard to achieve.
The Christmas Blur
From September onwards, it was very much heads down for Christmas – a whirlwind of preparation, long days and teamwork, rounded off nicely with a staff outing to the races, which involved a lot of laughter and not much winning (on the betting front at least!).

Thank You From Our Family to Yours
2025 has reminded us why we love what we do. We’re a family business, built on family values, and supported by loyal customers, local communities and a brilliant team.
Thank you for being part of our journey – whether you’ve been with us for years or found us for the first time this year.
Here’s to another year of great food, happy birds and strong family farming.
