The Story so far

A Family Of Farmers and Growers

Our story began fifteen years ago when my time in London as a surveyor came to an end and I decided to return home to the beautiful Yorkshire countryside for a life of farming. Having grown up on a pig farm, a lot of my childhood was spent as a farm hand to my parents, experiencing first-hand how to rear animals with welfare, sustainability and traceability at the heart of it all.

The Herb Fed Discovery

When I returned from the big smoke, I discovered my Aunt Alison’s business, Herbs Unlimited, was behind her thriving hens and their delicious eggs. I was intrigued …what if feeding chickens (and even turkeys) herbs could improve their lives and their flavour? That idea sparked the country’s first Herb Fed Poultry Farm.

In Christmas 2009, I trialled my first batch of herb-fed turkeys with local butchers—and they sold out in weeks. Chickens and roosters followed, and the rest, as they say, is history.

A Growing Family

In 2014, I met my wife, Emma. Raised in Yorkshire with the same values, she quickly became part of the team. Not long after, Letty and Martha arrived – we may have two budding poultry farmers already under our wing.

Growing the Right Way

A major milestone came in 2018, when we moved to our home in Easingwold, giving the business the space it needed to grow. We invested in state-of-the-art facilities and a SALSA-approved processing unit, but our philosophy stayed exactly the same - quality over volume, small flocks, and traditional methods with full farm-to-fork control. Most importantly, we’ve kept the same personal service you’d expect from a small family business that truly cares.

Herb Fed Today

While our we have strengthened our infrastructure we have not changed our values. Herb Fed today is still recognisably the same farm it has always been - just with a few more acres, a few more awards, a bigger team, and customers in every corner of the country!

Along the way, the industry has taken notice and our commitment to our slow-grown rearing ethos has earned us:

• 18 Great Taste Awards, including 2-star honours in 2025.
• Poultry Farmer of the Year (Northern Farmer Awards).
• Prestigious Stockists like Fortnum & Mason and Chatsworth Farm Shop.
• Chef Partnerships with Tommy Banks and Shaun Rankin.
• 4 ,000+ Customer Reviews with a 4.9/5 average.

We’re proud of what Herb Fed has become, but we’re even prouder of the honest, natural way we got here.
