Our Birds
Reared at the foot of the Hambleton Hills, our award-winning, free-range birds are full of flavour and deliciously textured.
A Bird With Taste - Full of Flavour, Naturally
Our birds grow slowly and naturally, out in the open, on seventy acres of North Yorkshire countryside. They follow their instincts - foraging, dust-bathing, pecking through fresh herbs and it shows in the flavour!
Twice a week, they enjoy over ten varieties of locally grown herbs from Edward's cousin Philip's farm just down the road in Sand Hutton, alongside additive-free cereal from a trusted local mill. It's a diet unlike anything else and it makes for a bird with flavour we feel is difficult to beat.
A Bird of Provenance
Every chicken, turkey and rooster is reared entirely on our North Yorkshire farm. From the moment they arrive to the moment they leave, we know exactly what they've eaten, how they've lived, and how they've been handled. Farm to fork, no shortcuts, no middlemen.
A Bird of Privilege
Our birds are part of our family. They live in small flocks, with plenty of space to roam and forage as nature intended. We hand bed their housing every day, and they're only brought in at night keeping them safe from Mr Fox and his friends!
Unlike intensively farmed birds, ours are never rushed. They're given the time to grow and develop at their own pace, which is exactly why the meat is so tender and the flavour so good. We've grown as a business over the years, but our flock is still reared the same way it always has been - by hand, with care.
Multi Award-Winning Poultry
A happy bird is a healthy bird and a tasty one too! That's always been our philosophy, and it's what drives everything we do. Slow growth, free-range living, a fresh herb diet, no unnecessary additives. It's a simple approach and the awards speak for themselves.
Chickens
Well known and loved, our home-grown chickens are raised on beautiful Yorkshire pastures.
Their free-range living means they can peck away at the delicious grass, insects, herbs and cereals all day long and nestle down in their beds of straw in our small-flock huts by night.
Turkeys
Day old poults arrive on the farm and are kept under heat lamps which are gradually turned down until the bird is fully feathered.Â
When fully feathered they can venture into their new homes in the field and at six weeks they start to enjoy a delicious mix of herbs such as parsley, coriander, thyme, fennel and marjoram all in time for a tasty bronze gobble by Christmas.
Roosters
Our Christmas Rooster are a special addition to the farm, produced just once a year for a tasty festive bird! Just like our turkeys, they enjoy wide ranging pastures and a fresh herb diet.
