

At Herb Fed Poultry, we’re passionate about good food and making it go further. In support of Food Waste Action Week, we put one of our 2kg free-range chickens to the test — and the results of our 2kg Chicken Challenge were both delicious and sustainable.
Fed a unique diet enriched with over 10 varieties of herbs and raised on our family farm in Yorkshire, our chickens deliver incredible flavour, generous portions, and minimal waste. Here’s how a 2kg chicken challenge and one bird went a long way!

A roast chicken dinner is a must. The two breast portions from our 2kg bird comfortably fed 2 adults and 3 hungry children. Juicy, flavourful, and far from your typical water-injected supermarket chicken.

One leg was shredded into a tasty chicken fried rice dish that served 4 people. The rich herb-fed flavour added something extra special to this simple, satisfying dinner.

“Tart Tuesday” saw the other leg transformed into a puff pastry tart with BBQ sauce, peppers, and red onions. This easy midweek winner used up leftovers while delivering big flavour.

Nothing goes to waste here. The bones were boiled to create a nutrient-rich chicken stock, perfect as the base for egg drop soup. We’ll be sharing the soup recipe later this week — it’s the ultimate comfort food.
